Could you be one of a growing number of employers hiring their apprentices?

Posted on from Changeboard

With the government recently announcing a new levy on apprenticeships, now could be the time to join other employers in adding a dedicated and willing new member to your team

Over three quarters of employers (76%) that take on apprentices are willing to make an offer of employment at the end of the apprenticeship.

A new study of 100 UK employers by Positive Outcomes, has found that apprentices are becoming of increasing importance UK businesses.

Kelly Ball, managing director of Positive Outcomes said: “The survey shows that apprenticeships can be a great way of securing a full-time position.

“When you consider the battle that new graduates face to secure a position having completed their degree, an apprentice is in a much better place to secure a long-term role.”

An overwhelming majority (87%) responded yes when asked if they believed apprenticeships gave young adults an advantage over those that haven’t.

The survey indicated that most employers would be willing to pay anywhere between £14,000 and £18,000 per annum for a successful apprentice.

Ball added: “Apprenticeships have long been criticised for paying low wages, but candidates have to remember that they’re being paid to learn, and in return, they’re also gaining an internationally recognised qualification. However, most importantly, this survey shows that, following the completion of the course, there are many opportunities to take a full-time position and earn a much higher salary.”

By hiring apprentices, businesses could be adding willing, determined and receptive employees for their workforce.

Mark Doyle, finance director at Vision Support Services commented: “We have a strong commitment to providing apprenticeship roles to people looking to get the opportunity to develop their skills and increase their business knowledge. The value that our past apprenticeships have added to Vision Support Services has been immeasurable.

"The vast majority of our apprentices flourish during their apprenticeship and obtain full time employment in the company after their apprenticeship term which encourages a committed, competent and experienced workforce."
